9 reasons why you are not getting search engine traffic
You feel like you're doing everything right, however, you never hit 1000 unique visitors per month and only a few of your posts get search traffic.
If every one of your posts isn't getting anything from a few search traffic to a few thousand visits per month, you're doing something wrong.
Here are nine reasons why you may not be getting as much search engine traffic as you deserve.
9 reasons why you are not getting search engine traffic
1. Your site is not indexed
If your site is not indexed, they cannot send you traffic. So, how is it indexed?
Google (and other search engines) will automatically index your site, but here are some steps to speed up the process:
Create an XML sitemap using the Google XML Sitemaps plugin.
Submit your sitemap to Google through Google Webmaster Tools.
The more popular your site becomes, the more frequently Google spiders will visit and index your content more quickly.
2. You don't write something people are searching for
The first step in writing a blog post is knowing what people want to know. Ignoring this step is like starting a business without researching what people want to buy.
If you want search traffic, you need to do keyword research. I know I've said this before here and here, but be honest with yourself, how often do you actually do this?
Your job is to create content around the keywords that people are actually searching for. To help you see what keywords people are searching for, take a look at Ahrefs or SEMRush.
3. You don't create keyword-focused posts
Along the same lines, once you know exactly what keywords people are using, you need to create content specifically for those keywords.
During your keyword research, create a list of keywords that are relevant to your audience and that are searched more than 500 times per month. Then write one blog post for each keyword.
If you need help coming up with good titles, Portent has a free tool to help.
When doing keyword research, this will help.
4. You don't put keywords in your titles
Your title is the most important part of your message for getting search traffic.
When you search Google for something, the keyword you're looking for is always in the headline, usually in its entirety and near the front of the title.
So, if you want to start ranking for specific keywords, they need to be in the headline and near the top.
5. Your posts are not inclusive
Remember, Google's mission is to provide high-quality, relevant search results. Ideally, the best and most comprehensive web page for each keyword will always rank first.
For example, if you write a 100 word post on “how to get search engine traffic” while someone else writes a 3000 word post that covers every nook and cranny of the topic with authority, Google will find a way to put your 3000 word post at the top And drop your flyer on the side of the road.
Your goal with each blog post is to create the ultimate resource for that specific keyword. 2,000 words per blog post is a good rule of thumb.
6. You do not create shareable content
A study by Branded3 confirmed that Google search results are based at least to some extent on the number of tweets.
In the study, they found a direct correlation between the number of tweets and the ranking of search results. URLs with more than 7,500 tweets ranked, on average, fifth for their keywords.
This makes sense too. If people are sharing your blog post, that's a good sign that it deserves a boost in search results.
7. You don't link externally and internally
One way to create a definitive resource for a particular keyword is to link to other resources within your blog post, both externally and internally.
This does three things:
It makes your blog post more valuable.
It makes other content on this topic easier for Google to find.
I have found that one of the best ways to get backlinks is to start linking to other bloggers.
8. You are not using WordPress
One of the benefits of using WordPress is that it creates pages that are easy to index. If your website is easy to index, Google will rank it higher.
WordPress is widely considered the best website building platform in part because that is what it is built with the best resources online. And people who use it recommend it to others.
The key here is to have a well-coded website and WordPress or Blogger will do it for you.
9. You're not optimizing your photos
Optimizing your images helps search engine rankings in two ways:
You are likely to get traffic through Google image search.
It's another way to tell Google who your primary keyword is.
Here are the only three ways to improve your photos:
Save your images as [keyword-phrase.png] before uploading them to your site.
Add alt text as [keyword phrase].
Add title tag as [keyword phrase].

The last word
Once you fall into the routine of doing keyword research, choosing a keyword, and pumping out content, it's easy to focus too much on writing for search engines.
Your writing becomes automatic. Just because someone can find it doesn't mean they will read and love it.
The reason you need to follow these steps is because it is the most efficient way to find out what people want to read and serve it on an easy to find platter.
